Desktop Video

Course Description

This course deals with the processes involved with desktop editing of audio and video for digital output. Topics include the operation of non-linear systems, compression schemes and shooting and editing for digital systems. Students will produce short videos for output to various storage formats or playback on digital media.

Upon successful completion of this course, the student should be able to:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of non-linear editing terms by correctly using vocabulary and concepts relative to non-linear editing.
  • Examine and determine the proper technical set up for output of edited material for NTSC, CD ROM and Internet/Intranet.
  • Decide upon scenes based upon the optimum technical and aesthetic components.
  • Perform a rough edit.
  • Mix digital audio and edit it in appropriately.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of non-linear editing terms, by correctly using vocabulary and concepts relative to non-linear editing.
  • Log and digitize video footage into a digital audio/video edit system.
  • Examine and determine the proper technical set up for output of edited material for NTSC, CD ROM and Internet/Intranet.
