Course Description

This course is an introduction to the history of the evolution and application of typography for the perception of meaning, intention and personality of the written word.

Upon successful completion of this course, the student should be able to:

  1. Distinguish between various typestyles/fonts.
  2. Understand the importance of design nuances in typographic design.
  3. Recognize the moods and personalities that different typestyles can produce when properly applied.
  4. Successfully critique, discuss, and apply appropriate typographical design solutions to problems.
  5. Comprehend and utilize the vocabulary of type.
  6. Become aware of the history and continued evolution of typography.
